What is the difference between post-infection and post-vaccination antibodies?

Published on

Our immune system generates antibodies both when overcoming COVID-19 and after vaccination. A doctor reveals what’s the difference between the two types of antibodies.

According to doctors, during the disease, the immune system tries to generate antibodies for all the components of the virus, while the vaccine acts more selectively: it only creates antibodies for the components depends on the aggressiveness of the infection.

As for natural antibodies, they are not always very effective: it depends largely on the state of the immune system and the picture of the disease in general.

Paradoxically, people who have overcome critical COVID-19 often do not have antibodies, because on this occasion, the coronavirus is capable of evading immunity.

The postvaccination antibodies, in turn, are more effective because the immune response is formed deliberately and includes the formation of cell memory and antibodies to a particular antigen.

At the same time, two types of antibodies cannot conflict with each other. Getting vaccinated after overcoming COVID-19 “will only strengthen the immune system.”

Experts add that people who have a lot of antibodies and a strong immune system can wait about six months before getting vaccinated.
