The US electric car maker Tesla registered worldwide registration volume of 88,400 units during the first quarter of this year, representing a historical figure and an increase of 40.3% compared to last year’s data.

Part of this momentum may come from the opening of its new mega-factory in Shanghai, China. This has been the entire first quarter the factory has been operating, except for two weeks in February for the coronavirus – something Tesla describes as one of the “significant headwinds” of the period. However, it is also unclear how much China has contributed to the overall computation because Tesla does not separate sales or production by region.

In terms of manufacturing, Tesla assembled 102,672 vehicles worldwide between January and March this year, a 33.1% progression compared to the 77,100 units that left its plants in the same period of the previous year.

The productive volume of Model 3 and Model Y reached 87,282 units in the first quarter of 2020, which represents an increase of 38% compared to the 62,950 units assembled from Model 3 in the first quarter of 2019. In addition, they were manufactured 15,390 units of Model S and X, 8.7% more.
