People who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine in the hope of travelling to the United States may have to wait a bit longer to pack their bags.

AstraZeneca is proving a real problem. If the US doesn’t recognise it, it means millions of Brits won’t be eligible to travel if we agree to a new corridor

The AstraZeneca vaccine is still waiting for approval in the US and complicating the situation for the people trying to travel even though they are fully vaccinated.
This comes in response to the rapid spread of the Delta variant, which has prompted many European countries to limit on COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The Financial Times noted that it is unlikely that a conclusion will be reached about the travel corridor between the US and UK including other countries with the AstraZeneca vaccine and talks are expected to extend until August and possibly even September.
From Wednesday, Malta is the only country allowing fully vaccinated travellers and the Portuguese government, which just a month ago welcomed AstraZeneca with open arms, has put tighter restrictions in place which came into effect Monday.
Visitors coming to Portugal will need to be quarantined for 14 days unless fully vaccinated.
Spain is another country where travellers must be fully vaccinated upon arrival.
Hong Kong will stop all passenger flights to the UK from the 1st of July and has added the UK to the ‘extremely high-risk’ Covid-19 list.
The Hong Kong government explained in a statement that the ban was introduced because of “the recent rebound of the epidemic situation in the UK and the widespread Delta variant virus strain there, coupled with a number of cases with L452R mutant virus strains detected by tests from people arriving from the UK”.

The United States has also raised travel advisories Monday to a number of African countries including Liberia, Uganda, Mozambique and Zambia to Level 4 — “Do not travel” — due to their increasing rates of COVID-19 infections and the UAE and new restrictions on travellers from Britain as countries struggle to contain the spread of the delta variant, first detected in India.
