An intelligent video camera, an intelligent light bulb, an intelligent socket: these are the three new protagonists of the Samsung ” SmartThings ” family with which the group is increasing the group of devices available with a view to a growing development of the smart home concept.

Home automation is something else, but this is not the ambition of the project. The idea, if anything, is to offer a basic home automation system new intelligent tools for managing the home environment, extending the Samsung brand also to this further context. For all these devices it is possible to interact via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Bixby (the proprietary solution of the Korean giant).

At the moment the three devices are not yet included among those of the SmartThings family distributed on Amazon, but in all probability the landfall will be solicitous.

SmartThing Cam

The new SmartThings Cam differs visibly from the previous model by virtue of the single articulated arm with which it is possible to orient the camera. With an expense of USD 89.99 it is possible to access something that challenges Nest video cameras up close, with Full HD HDR definition, infrared night vision, audio interaction in two directions, body detection and a wide 145 degree view.

Interesting is the fact that a 30-day backup option is available for up to 8 cameras ($ 7.99 a month or $ 79.99 a year), which well gives an idea of what the spending threshold may be useful for building a personalized home video surveillance ecosystem.

Smart Bulb and Smart Plug

The Smart Bulb bulb offers 800 lumens of brightness with 9 watts of consumption and a yield of warm white (2700k, a value not always achieved by low-cost LED solutions), dimmable but without the fanciful colored nuances that allow to obtain other types of smart light bulbs. It is declared compatible with Zigbee and Z-Wave, which means that it can be easily connected to a control hub and therefore, with simple vocal interaction, turned on, off and adjusted. The official debut price is $ 9.99, but the cost of the hub is a barrier to entering this type of solution.

The Smart Plug socket, on the other hand, allows you to control additional electronic instruments in your home environment with an app, a basic point of access to a simple and comfortable idea of a smart home. It works via Wifi and therefore does not require a connection hub. Available from today, it has an official cost of $ 18.
