Qualcomm Networking Pro Series

Qualcomm announces its new series of access point chips with support for WiFI 6: solutions designed to guarantee the maximum in every situation.

Qualcomm Network Pro Series is the new range of chips for access points of the American giant, which allows to fully exploit the potential of WiFi 6, a standard able to offer maximum stability and speed even in densely populated areas with connections Wifi. The range includes four product lines, each designed to be implemented on different types of platforms.

WiFi 6: the high density network solution

An often overlooked problem, when considering a WiFi connection, is the density of networks and connections in the same area. Smartphone, PC, router, smart home: the amount of WiFI connections present at the same time, in the same area, tends to grow more and more. The main consequence of this phenomenon is certainly the decrease in the performance of the individual connections. A compromise to which users are no longer willing to descend, in an era in which speed and stability of connection are essential factors. Qualcomm is certain to solve the performance problems of wireless networks, in densely populated areas of connections, with the new generation of chips that exploits the new communication standard: WiFi 6.

Qualcomm Networking Pro Series: key specifications

The entire range of new chips, designed by the American giant for domestic and non-domestic access points, is based on a series of features that can differentiate products, making them unique in terms of quality and connection speed. It doesn’t matter if it is a home network or in a public place such as a shopping center, office or library: the new chip range is able to guarantee high performance in any situation.

Traffic organization

The new algorithms used by the chips allow traffic to be organized more intelligently, guaranteeing access to networks that is always orderly and efficient even in the presence of a large number of simultaneous connections. In particular, the new chip generation uses the MU-MIMO 8 × 8 (in download, but also in upload) to allow the connection of more users to the same antenna both in upload and download.

Furthermore, support is also guaranteed for OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access) technology which allows the connection of up to 37 devices to the same 5Ghz channel at the same time.

All the new series of the Networking Pro Series range support the 1024QAM modulation scheme, which is able to increase up to 38% of the possible performance with access points based on the WiFi standard 5. Furthermore, the architecture used for chip design is has been completely redesigned and can support up to 1500 users connected at the same time.

Finally, of course, Qualcomm also gives a nod to security, essential when it comes to wireless connections, especially in public places. All new chips support WPA3 authentication and protection standards.

The range

The new range of Qualcomm Network Pro Series chips is composed, as anticipated, of four chip lines, already available to the OEMs and therefore already implementable on finished products. They are all based on quad core processors made up of 4 Cortex A53s, but the power and number of spatial flows change. Different solutions, able to meet the needs of home, public and corporate networks:

  • Qualcomm Networking Pro 1200 Platform: support for up to 12 spatial streams, maximum 2.2GHz chip frequency;
  • Qualcomm Networking Pro 800 Platform: support for up to 8 spatial streams, maximum 1.4Ghz chip frequency;
  • Qualcomm Networking Pro 600 Platform supports up to 6 spatial streams, maximum 1Ghz chip frequency;
  • Qualcomm Networking Pro 400 Platform supports up to 4 spatial streams, maximum 1Ghz chip frequency;

As anticipated, the newly announced chips can be purchased from the manufacturers. Some of them, like Netgear, Belkin and Aruba are already working to implement them in finished products ready for marketing.
