Apple New iPhone 11: What was expected but did not arrive

Published on

Faced with those characteristics that are but of which Apple did not speak or barely had time to do it are the other great features of New iPhone 11: those that were expected and had been rumored, but that have not ended up doing so.

Although there were certainly many rumors that were confirmed (especially in the field of photography and design) there are some that seemed more or less likely and others that were simply more “hopefully” of the users or trends that now dominate the Android market but that Apple has not followed (despite following others).

Heal with the help of the immune system

Be that as it may, because these models seem like an iteration of the Xs and Xs Max from last year, and we may see some of these options on the iPhone 12 of 2020.

  • A more powerful zoom: it had been rumored that the new lens of the iPhone 11 cameras would arrive with an optical zoom that could reach 3x, but the 2x zoom is maintained on that lens. Nor does the resolution of these sensors change, which is still 12 MPs.
  • There was no ‘One more thing’: that last part of the conference has been reserved for Apple’s special surprise releases. There was talk of the potential announcement of the 16-inch MacBook, but it seems that we will have to be more patient with these laptops. Although there was no ‘One more thing’ as such there was surprise with the launch of the 10.2-inch iPad – announced in the first minutes of the keynote – that we did not expect.
  • The notch is still there, and rightly so: frameless phones that are already a reality in the Android market are not so much in the Apple world, which keeps the notch on its new iPhone. There are plenty of reasons for this, because Face ID is a fundamental part of these phones and is still a more advanced facial recognition system than the competition.
  • 90/120 Hz screen refreshment: mobile phones with 90 Hz displays and up to 120 Hz are already here, and Apple has already integrated displays with 120 Hz refresh rates on its iPad Pro a long time ago. There was not much hope that these screens would reach the iPhone 11, but dreaming costs nothing. They haven’t, of course, but we could see them in 2020, don’t despair.
  • Fingerprint under screen: another of the rumors that seemed discarded for a long time but that seems to be one of the keys of the 2020 models. The fingerprint readers under the screen are already a reality in Android phones and its operation is really remarkable, but for the moment on the iPhone we continue with a (great, of course) Face ID.
  • 5G connectivity: it was not critical to generate interest, but it is clear that having an iPhone with 5G would have attracted attention. That will not be possible for now, but it seems inevitable that the iPhone 5G arrives in 2020. Especially after the acquisition of Intel’s modem business by Apple.
  • USB-C instead of Lightning: Apple is still betting on the Lightning connector on its iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, but we have already seen a small indication of the change: the charger now works with a USB-C to Lightning cable, and not with one USB-A to Lightning. It seems that in 2020 they could make the leap to the connector, something logical if we consider that they have already used it on the MacBook and on the iPad Pro.
  • Without support for the Apple Pencil: it was a remote possibility but it could make sense for example on the iPhone 11 Pro Max for its larger screen and for differentiating it from the iPhone 11 Pro. That option has not come despite the debates that suggested that it could do so , but maybe in the future.
  • Inverse wireless charging: although wireless charging is maintained, it was rumored that Apple could offer reverse wireless charging in order to charge for example the AirPods with the iPhone. That option has not appeared, and again the door opens for him to do so soon.
  • Screen always active: the new OLED screens of the iPhone invite to integrate screen modes always active and low consumption in these models, but for now they do not integrate that option. Yes they have done it in the Apple Watch Series 5, which suggests that this option could also reach the iPhone at some point.
  • Video game control for mobile phones: the launch of Apple Arcade raises the momentum of the video game market in iOS, and an accessory dedicated to converting these phones into portable consoles seems suggestive and consistent, but again Apple has not made movements in this sense. Both the controls of the PS4 and those of the Xbox One are supported, but perhaps it would be interesting to have some official controls from Apple itself.
