Animal Abuse: Wet markets in China continue to sell dogs as food for human

Video of animal activists denounces the mistreatment of these animals

Animal activists have denounced, through a video, the conditions under which a street stall in China stored dogs for later sale as food for human.

The published video show a group of animals remaining in miserable conditions in the city of Zhengzhou, China. According to several animal protection NGOs, the business owner steals and kills dogs and then sells them in the market.

Lost Humanity

According to Express, the owner has admitted not having a license to have this business and was contacted by “urban management officials”, but did not receive any kind of punishment.

This seems another example of how little animal welfare is concerned about, with few national laws for its defence in force. Of course, about 4,000 pets, including dogs, cats and rabbits, recently died after being sent to a logistics center in China and abandoned there for days.

China has a law prohibiting the transport of live animals via courier unless the sender has the correct documents and an approved transport container. However, as reported by several local media outlets, it is common for animals to be transported insecurely after being purchased online.

Meanwhile, China’s state media has called on the government to implement “rapid legislation against animal abuse” amid concerns about animal suffering in the country.
