The social network Facebook will begin flagging all posts about covid vaccines in an attempt to combat misinformation, the company said on its website.

“In the coming weeks, we’re rolling out labels on all posts generally about COVID-19 vaccines that point people to the COVID-19 Information Centre, and plan to add additional targeted labels about COVID-19 vaccine subtopics,” Facebook said.

The labels contain “reliable information from the World Health Organization on the safety of COVID-19 vaccines,” the company notes.

For example, the labels report that vaccines pass safety and efficacy tests before they are licensed.

The labels will be visible in all countries in English, Spanish, Indonesian, Portuguese, Arabic and French; more languages are planned to be added soon.

The company also announced that it is launching a coronavirus information center on Instagram for all countries. The center will publish data from local health authorities and WHO about the virus.

Last May, the chair of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee, Julian Knight, claimed there were “record levels of misinformation and disinformation online about COVID-19, some of it deadly”.

Likewise, the social network will add new stickers to promote vaccination.
