Worldle: in this new Nerdle-like game you just need to guess the country

Published on

Following Wordle’s departure, a slew of clones emerged, each one funnier than the last and further twisting the notion. After its founder disobeyed a commitment not to sell it, it was recently purchased by the New York Times, generating public outrage. Today, though, we’re not going to discuss Josh Wardle’s game, but rather one that was heavily influenced by it and is geared for geography buffs: Worldle.

The goal of Worldle is simple: guess the country. The shape of its surface, as well as the distance and direction in which we’ve been striking since the prior try, provide indications, similar to a GeoGuessr on a small scale.

Guess the country in this simple game inspired by Wordle

Although there isn’t much Wordle here, the interface and the amount of available attempts are similar (which is a total of six). After a successful attempt, the game will display the distance, direction, and proximity of the player to the target, as stated in its instructions. This distance is between centers of each country.

Once the game is over, we can see the country on Google Maps through a link that appears automatically. In addition, we also have the possibility of sharing our results on social networks in the purest Wordle style, although the green or yellow boxes do not correspond to the word, but correspond to a representation of how close we have been in distance from the objective.

If we go to the game settings, we see that we can modify the unit of measure for the distance, either in kilometers or miles, in addition to being able to adjust the light or dark theme of its interface. We also have the possibility to make it more difficult by removing the image that they give us as a track or rotating it.

The game’s success was totally unexpected for its creator, as it recently broke the 500,000 player mark. Known as teuteuf, this developer expressed words of thanks after reaching the figure, commenting that it was only a secondary project.
