iPhone 11 vs Pixel 3 XL, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Huawei P30 and other smartphones

Published on

The iPhone 11 Pro and the Pro Max are above the iPhone 11 being this the most basic and also cheaper option, hence we compare the iPhone 11 with its rivals between 800 and 1,000 euros, given that its base price starts from 809 euros and its maximum reaches 979 euros. It is an interesting comparison by making it clearer what the iPhone 11 faces in its output at the level of sale price.

These are the smartphones that we will compare:

  • iPhone 11 versus OPPO Reno10x Zoom

  • iPhone 11 versus Huawei P30 Pro

  • iPhone 11 versus Samsung Galaxy S 10+

  • iPhone 11 versus Pixel 3 XL

  • iPhone 11 versus Sony Xperia 1

  • iPhone 11 versus Samsung Galaxy Note 10

  • iPhone 11 versus ASUS ROG Phone II

  • iPhone 11 versus iPhone XS

  • iPhone 11 versus LG V50 ThinQ 5G

Design: changes in the back unraveling of its predecessors and its rivals

How is it with respect to volume and weight ? It measures and weighs exactly the same as its predecessor, the iPhone XR, being in this way more bulky than the XS and the Galaxy that we have included here, but falling below large and heavy smartphones such as the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom or that ROG ( although with a huge battery at capacity level)

HEIGHT (MM) WIDTH (MM) THICKNESS (MM) WEIGHT (G) FRONT SURFACE (CM2) VOLUME (CC) BATTERY (MAH)
IPHONE 11 150.9 75.7 8.3 194 114.23 94.82 Nd
OPPO RENO 10X ZOOM 162 77.2 9.3 210 125.01 116.31 4,065
HUAWEI P30 PRO 158 73.4 8.4 192 115.91 97.42 4,200
PIXEL 3 XL 158 76.7 7.9 184 121.19 95.73 3,430
SAMSUNG GALAXY S10 + 157.6 74.1 7.8 175 116.78 91.09 4,300
SONY XPERIA 1 167 72 8.2 180 120.24 98.6 3,330
SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10 151 71.8 7.9 186 108.42 85.65 3,400
ASUS ROG PHONE II 171 77.6 9.5 240 132.7 126.06 6,000
IPHONE XS 143.6 70.9 7.7 177 101.81 78.4 2,658
LG V50 5G 159.2 76.1 8.3 183 121.15 100.55 4,000

It does not seem with these data that the work in compaction is better than that of Samsung or Huawei, taking into account that with a 6.1-inch screen it is more bulky than the S10 + with 6.4 inches and that it is not far from the volume of the P30 Pro integrating this a screen of 6.47 inches. We will see in hand how it turns out, especially in comparison to the 11 Pro Max which is larger than the iPhone XS Max.

Screen: a low density IPS in a realm of OLEDs

It is interesting that we still see IPS panels in the market and there are fewer and fewer manufacturers that opt for them for the possibilities of OLED (and other advantages), but the calibration of this type of panels on the iPhone has been traditionally correct and in this sense may continue to give good experience. Of course, it will not be suitable for those who prioritize the resolution, look for a clearer front or prefer AMOLED saturation.

SCREEN TYPE DIAGONAL RESOLUTION DENSITY ASPECT RATIO PERCENTAGE P / F
IPHONE 11 IPS 6.1 ” 1,792 x 828 px 363 dpi 19.5: 9 79% (to be confirmed)
OPPO RENO 10X ZOOM AMOLED 6.6 ” 1,080 x 2,340 px 387 dpi 19.5: 9 86.6%
HUAWEI P30 PRO OLED ( notch ) 6.47 ” 2,340 x 1,080 px 398 dpi 19.5: 9 88.6
SAMSUNG GALAXY S10 + Dynamic AMOLED Infinity O 6.4 ” 3,040 x 1,440 px 526 dpi 18.5: 9 87.5
PIXEL 3 XL P-OLED ( notch ) 6.3 “ 2,560 x 1,440 px 532 dpi 18.5: 9 82.4
SONY XPERIA 1 OLED 6.5 ” 3,840 x 1,664 px 643 dpi 21: 9 82
SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10 Dynamic AMOLED Infinity O 6.3 “ 2,280 x 1,080 px 401 dpi 19: 9 90.9
IPHONE XS OLED ( notch ) 5.8 ” 1,125 x 2,436 px 458 dpi 19.5: 9 82.9
ASUS ROG PHONE II AMOLED 5.59 ” 1,080 x 2,340 px 391 dpi 19.5: 9 80.3.
LG V50 THINQ 5G P-OLED 6.4 ” 3,120 x 1,440 px 537 dpi 19.5: 9 83

Thus, although talking about Apple a resolution lower than QHD does not penalize so much, and only in comparison with the XS we see that as for this parameter the iPhone 11 is below. We will have to see how the tactile sensitivity is, the viewing angles and if those 625 nits are enough, but what has not had evolution either (and may be related to the type of panel) are the frames, which are still greater than in the iPhone Pro and in smartphones that do manage to convey a full-screen feeling like the OPPO or the Note.

Performance and power

Apple smartphones play in another league when we talk about milliamps and GB of RAM. There are points where more is better and obviously a 12 GB RAM has to be noted with respect to the 4 GB that probably carry the iPhone or the last Google Pixel, but in Cupertino this component does not give the jumps that we see in Android as we say it is very possible that the iPhone 11 maintains the 4 GB of the XS, although it would be an evolution with respect to the 3 GB of the iPhone XR.

The processor is its own and the new A13 Bionic will have to fight in combat with the Sanpdragon 855 (and Snapdragon 855+ ) from Qualcomm, the Kirin 980 from Huawei and the Exynos 9820 and Exynos 9825 from Samsung. As usual, many promised the numbers we saw in the keynote with that trillion operations per second, but we must see how they perform in practice and what they can somehow indicate benchmarks .

PROCESSOR RAM ROM
IPHONE 11 Apple A13 Bionic Nd 64/128/256 GB (not micro SD)
HUAWEI P30 PRO Kirin 980 6/8 GB 128/256/512 GB (NM card)
SAMSUNG GALAXY S10 + Exynos 9820 8/12 GB 128/512 GB / 1 TB (microSD)
PIXEL 3 XL Snapdragon 845 4GB 64/128 GB (without microSD)
SONY XPERIA 1 Snapdragon 855 6 GB 64/128 GB (microSD)
SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10 Exynos 9825 8 GB 256 GB (not microSD)
ASUS ROG PHONE II Snapdragon 855/885 + 12 GB 256/512 GB / 1 TB (not microSD)
IPHONE XS Apple A12 4GB 64/256/512 GB (not microSD)
LG V50 THINQ 5G Snapdragon 855 6 GB 128 GB (microSD)

Thus, in the absence of seeing what Pixel can offer this year, Apple also seems to be in the queue talking about RAM and in this case almost in storage, although the manufacturer still does not give the option of an external memory card. The TB offered by the S10 + in its maximum configuration is four times what the iPhone 11 gives in its most complete model, tied with the unique configuration of the LG V50 and the Pixel 3 XL.

Cameras: a double rear camera that faces one and three

This year the Cupertino ascend to the most basic iPhone, but leaving it still in the field of the double camera.

This makes us see differences with most Android terminals that have somehow opted for the triple or even quad camera. At least in terms of versatility of the rear camera, so that Apple’s bet on its iPhone has been the addition of ultra wide angle, as we have seen in iPhones with Pro surname, thus dispensing with the telephoto lens.

We cannot even compare results obviously, but it is expected that with the characteristics that the cameras present, it will be able to compete at least in those types of photographs. The Pixel 3, with a single camera, was very good in all our photographic comparisons determining that more is always not better, but there are also the excellent results of the optical zoom of the P30 Pro or the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom and the importance of processing.

Of course, it will be interesting to see that video in 4K by the front camera, as well as the (very) good night mode and portrait mode and not only for people (as was the case in the XR). Also the new functions in the serial editor and that computation and processing of so many layers that have been introduced in the presentation, using artificial intelligence for that “invisible” work but not as an effect on the camera interface as we see in Huawei and in other brands, following on the same side as OnePlus in this regard.

Where Apple does not enter is in the war of megapixels and we do not see a sensor of 48 or more megapixels on their phones. In fact, it is a battle that, as we can see, does not fight the rest of the rivals we have put here except the ASUS ROG.

Thus, we have a bit of everything in this selection of the current 2019 high-end (and 2018). As we have said, combinations of rear cameras from one to four cameras come to live together, if we count as one of them the Time of Flight (or TOF) sensor, which is another of the fashions we have seen this year both in rear cameras and in front. We will see if Apple’s ultra wide angle is capable of being up to that of Huawei, Samsung and the rest that have already been integrated into several terminals.

iPhone 11 versus the competition: table with specifications

Some other features that differentiate the iPhone 11 from the rest of the terminals is the absence of USB type C, since Apple continues to incorporate its own connector (Lightning), fast charging, reverse wireless charging and also the 3.5 mm minijack, although We have also seen this in the new Note and other Android terminals. Of course, the operating system is also different, being in this case iOS 13 which is about to be launched in its final version.

As a summary, we leave a couple of tables (so that the cells can be seen better). In both we place the iPhone 11 to be the main one to compare in this case, distributing the rest in two tables so that the content is better distributed.
