While Drake’s Certified Lover Boy was a smash hit, many immediately questioned why disgraced hip hop singer R. Kelly was credited with one of the album’s tracks – and now one of the album’s producers has provided an explanation.

The song TSU is credited to R. Kelly, which has resulted in Drake being criticized for associating with the musician.

In a comment on an Instagram post, producer Noah Shebib explained why R. Kelly was included on the album.

He said at the start of TSU you can hear OG Ron C speaking and behind that voice an R. Kelly song was played in the background.

Shebib said: “It has no significance no lyrics are present, R. Kelly’s voice isn’t even present but if we wanted to use Ron C talking we were forced to license it.”

He said the fact they had to license the song did not “sit well with him” and said he wasn’t commenting to defend Drake’s lyrics but wanted to clear up why R. Kelly had a credit on the album.

He added he “just had to say something because to think we would stand beside that guy or write with him is just incredibly disgusting.”With R. Kelly credited on the song it raises the possibility of him receiving royalties for the album.

When asked why they did not just re-record that section of the Album, Shebib replied in a comment saying they would have if they could but they did not know about the problem “until the final hours.”

R. Kelly is currently on trial accused of sexually abusing multiple women and girls for years.

The trial will hear their testimony about how Kelly’s managers, bodyguards and other employees allegedly helped him recruit women, girls and boys for sexual exploitation.

Prosecutor Maria Cruz Melendez said he invited children and women to join him after his shows. Once he was alone with them, he “dominated and controlled them physically, sexually and psychologically.”
