Emily Ratajkowski says: “I would not be famous” if she “had spoken out or complained”

Emily Ratajkowski wanted to be famous, so she kept quiet when Robin Thicke allegedly groped her on the set of his Blurred Lines music video.

The 30-year model, who is publicizing her new book of essays, My Body, told People that she knew she wouldn’t have been successful if she had voiced her complaints at the time.

“I was an unknown model, and if I had spoken out or complained, I would not be where I am today; I would not be famous,” Ratajkowski told the magazine at the CoinGeek Conference cocktail party.

The Sports Illustrated model stated that she decided to include the alleged incident in her book because she has matured over the years and hopes her followers would understand.

“I wrote a book about the evolution of my politics, and that includes a lot of different experiences from my career and my life, and the way that I felt and thought about those experiences [has] evolved,” she said.

“I hope people are able to read the essay and understand the nuance behind these kinds of situations.”

According to the section from Ratajkowski’s novel, Thicke touched her while filming the 2013 music video that catapulted her to prominence.

“Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke,” she mentions this in her book, releasing next month.

Ratajkowski was one of three models in the video, which also featured Pharrell Williams and T.I.

What began as a fun encounter rapidly turned sour when the Back Together singer, now 44, allegedly began acting obnoxious.

“He smiled a goofy grin and stumbled backward, his eyes concealed behind his sunglasses. My head turned to the darkness beyond the set. [The director, Diane Martel’s] voice cracked as she yelled out to me, ‘Are you okay?’” the book states.

According to the Times, Martel verified the incident and stated that she did not believe Thicke would have done it “had he been sober”.

The Grammy nominee has not publicly responded to Ratajkowski’s allegations.
