John Stamos returns home and will be back ‘up and drumming in no time’ after hand surgery for tendon condition ‘trigger finger’

Published on

John Stamos is recuperating at home following a ‘quick elective procedure’ on his hand to treat swollen or inflamed tendons, sometimes known as trigger finger.

Taking to Instagram to give his fans an update, the Full House star shared a picture of himself jokingly smouldering for the camera while dressed in a hospital gown, cap and black face mask on a hospital bed.

He also uploaded a snap of his hand with a bandaged palm and writing on his middle and ring finger, as is usually done by doctors in preparation for surgery.

Alongside the photos, the 58-year-old wrote:

‘Damn you #Triggerfinger! I went in for a quick elective procedure – In and out! Thanks to the fine doctors/nurses for taking such good care of me. I’ll be up and drumming in no time. Thank you for the well wishes. Xo’

As he shared the post to Twitter, the actor added ‘easypeasey’ and ‘#AllgoodHomeHappy’ to reassure his followers over the nature of his procedure.

According to the NHS website, trigger finger is a condition that affects one or more of the hand’s tendons, making it difficult to bend the affected finger or thumb.

If the tendon becomes swollen and inflamed it can ‘catch’ in the tunnel it runs through (the tendon sheath), making it difficult to move the affected finger or thumb and can result in a clicking sensation.

Trigger finger is most common in women and people in their 40s and 50s, as well as in those who have had previous hand injuries, and can be treated by splinting, steroid injections and, ultimately, a 20-minute surgery.

There’s no confirmation on what caused the injury for John, but, as his ‘up and drumming in no time’ reference suggests, the actor is also a keen musician who plays at least five musical instruments including the drums, guitar, bass, piano and conga drum.

He has been performing sporadically in concerts with The Beach Boys since 1985, as well as singing lead vocals on a new version of their song Forever in 1992.

Since his days as rock musician Jesse in Full House, John has appeared in ER, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Grandfathered, Scream Queens and Full House sequel series, Fuller House.

Earlier this year, he shared his disappointment that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen never reprised their joint role as Michelle Tanner on Fuller House, which ran for five seasons on Netflix before finishing in 2020.

Speaking to Watch What Happens Live! Host Andy Cohen, John explained that they were ‘disappointed, but we understood.’

He continued: ‘I remember Lori [Loughlin] saying to me, “They won two or three CFDA [Fashion] Awards.” That’s like winning two or three Oscars. If you won three Oscars, would you come back and do this? I was like, “Eh, maybe not.”‘
