'Matrix 4': Laurence Fishburne explains why you will not see him in the long-awaited sequel

The filming of ‘Matrix 4’ goes from strength to strength after the inevitable stoppage due to the coronavirus. In it, we will see Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss giving life to the unforgettable Neo and Trinity, but Laurence Fishburne is not going to return to the character of Morpheus and now the actor has explained the reason for his absence in this long-awaited sequel.

They did not ask him to return

It was in an interview with New York Magazine where Fishburne clarified that they simply did not ask him to participate in ‘Matrix 4’. Specifically, this was what he commented on the matter:

I have not been invited. This may make me write another play. I wish you the best. I hope it’s great.

And His case seems to be different from that of Hugo Weaving, who is not going to be Agent Smith again, but in this case due to scheduling problems. This also gives more force to everything that was commented at the time about Morpheus appearing in the film but with a younger version of the character. It was even commented that it could be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Regarding Fishburne’s note of a play, it should be remembered that when Samuel L. Jackson “snatched” the role of Zeus from ‘Die Hard: Revenge’, he took the opportunity to write ‘Riff Raff’.

If there are no more setbacks, ‘Matrix 4’ will finally hit theatres on April 1, 2022.
