Matthew McConaughey could run for governor of Texas

Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, best known for his roles in the movie “Interstellar” and the crime series “True Detective,” is considering following in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger and running for governor of his home state.

“I’m evaluating it again. What is my leadership role?” Asks the interpreter on the Crimes Stoppers of Houston podcast The Balanced Voice.

“I think I have some things to teach and share,” he admits.

In November 2020, McConaughey stated on Stephen Colbert’s Midnight Show that his decision to run depends on the political situation in the country and the people of Texas. At that time, the actor defined politics as a “broken business.”

“When politics redefines its purpose, it could be much more interested,” he added.

If McConaughey finally becomes the governor of his home state, he would be the latest in a long line of actors to transition from film sets to big politics, including former President Ronald Reagan or former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

At the same time, it is not yet known which party he will run for, since the actor himself believes that both the Democrats and Republicans “have lost mutual trust.”

“So I am totally in favor of the individual and I believe that in order to achieve collective change, the individual must look in the mirror and think about how they can do a little better today,” says McConaughey.
