Step Back in Time with Disneyland’s Newest Addition: Pete, the Cat-Like Cartoon Character from 1925

Published on

It’s a historic moment for Disney fans! Pete, the iconic character from the ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse’ series, is stepping out of the animated world and into Disneyland. Be the first to greet Pete at Mickey’s Toontown starting this Sunday!

Disneyland is set to welcome a new character, who predates even Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Rabbit. Pete, a cat-like cartoon character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1925, will finally make his debut at Mickey’s Toontown on March 19.

This marks the first time Pete will appear at any Disney theme park. Although Pete has undergone several changes over the years, the costumed character that will be greeting guests at Disneyland is modeled after the most recognizable version from Disney’s “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” series.

Pete, the latest addition to Disneyland’s character roster, has an interesting history. First appearing in the 1925 short film collection “Alice Comedies,” Pete then appeared alongside Mickey Mouse in “Steamboat Willie” in 1928.

This cartoon marked Mickey Mouse’s debut to the public. Notably, Pete is even older than Oswald the Rabbit, who appeared in the 1927 short “Trolley Troubles.”

Aside from Pete, the famous cast of Disney characters, including Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, and Clarabelle, will be available for photo opportunities when Mickey’s Toontown reopens.

While Clarabelle has appeared in the park before, her presence on Sunday will be her first as a regular character.

Disneyland is pulling out all the stops for the reopening of Mickey’s Toontown, with plenty of new merchandise and snacks for guests to enjoy. Fans of Mickey Mouse will be pleased to hear that he will be sporting a new look when he greets guests outside of his “home.”

According to the resort, images shared by Disney reveal Mickey wearing a hybrid denim jacket/hooded sweatshirt and red pants.

Visitors to the park will also be able to purchase new items, including a trackless remote control train that is modeled after the popular Runaway Railway attraction.

For those with a sweet tooth, the park will be selling “Power Lime” candy inspired by the Powerline character from the beloved 1995 film, “A Goofy Movie.”
