Zack Snyder reveals a new image of Jared Leto’s “Joker”

The director left one more clue of what will be his version of the "Justice League"

Zack Snyder has caught the world’s attention with a new image of the “Joker”, the controversial character played by Jared Leto.

This afternoon the director of “Justice League” shared a new photo of Leto as the “Joker.”

In the image, the character is holding a joker card with a leather glove. Although in the portrait the actor’s face is blurry, it can be distinguished that his hair is longer compared to the first time he appeared on the screen.

“An amazing character they created. [I’m] honored that our worlds have collided,” Snyder wrote. In the post, he tagged David Ayer, director of “Suicide Squad” and Leto.

According to the sources, the director stated that there would be some changes to his version of the film. The “Joker”, for example, will have a more “exhausted” look, while the film’s main villain, “Steppenwolf”, was also redesigned.

A new life for a hated film

In May 2020, Snyder announced that he will release this version of the film this year. This will become a reality thanks to the HBO Max digital platform.

“It will be something completely new. And, especially for those who saw the original film, it will be a new experience away from that tape,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

The director, who explained that he had not seen the montage that reached theaters, considered that, from what they have told him about that film, viewers have seen “a quarter” of what he did.

This news came true thanks to the request of the most loyal fans of the DC Comics films. Since 2017, they have claimed on social media, under the label #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, that Snyder’s vision of that film starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher come to light.

Snyder, who had already directed, the not very successful “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” was also listed as the director of the 2017 film. This film would bring together all the superheroes from the DC Comics movies in an attempt to create an interlocking universe of films like its rival Marvel did.

However, Snyder had to withdraw in the last phase of the film’s production due to the suicide of his daughter Autumn. Deborah Snyder, Snyder’s wife and a regular contributor as a producer on her husband’s projects, also left the project.

In his place came Joss Whedon, who directed “The Avengers.” He came on as a stand-in to lead the post-production of “Justice League” and the filming of some additional scenes. This was a flop at the box office (grossing $ 658 million and from an estimated budget of $ 300 million) and did not receive critical backing, as it has only 40% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

In this context, many DC Comics fans viewed Snyder’s original vision as much darker than the film that eventually made it to the big screen, arguing that the actual nature of the project had been perverted. It was for this reason that prompted them to launch the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, which was growing on social media.

Now, this dream come true for fans will arrive in March. However, the Latin American public will have to wait, as this version will be available when the HBO Max platform reaches its various territories.
