Without a cure, prevention is vital in the fight against cancer. One superfood could drastically reduce cancer risk and tumor growth, according to scientists.

Turmeric, according to a team of British scientists from Cancer Research UK, should be included in the diet since it is capable of reducing the risk of cancer and inhibiting tumor growth by as much as 80 percent.

Due to the high content of antioxidants, particularly curcumin, turmeric has an active effect on pre-existing malignant tumors and helps inhibit their growth.

According to study reported by the Daily Express, people who eat traditional cuisines that incorporate turmeric have lower cancer rates.

The investigation was carried out on volunteers with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a relatively rare type of cancer that typically arises in the salivary glands or other parts of the head and neck. Turmeric was used as a supplement to the treatment.

“There is some evidence that curcumin, a substance in turmeric, can kill cancer cells in certain cancers. Within two months [of the experiment] there was stabilization and at six months a significant reduction in tumor weight and volume 80%, “the researchers note.

They also mentioned turmeric’s high antioxidant content, which helps lower cholesterol in individuals with heart disease and prevents cataracts, glaucoma, and yellow spot degeneration.
