Can’t Sleep? Turns Out This Trick Works Even With Insomnia, According to Expert

What would you say if someone told you that the best method to fall asleep quickly is to try not to?

Here’s a strategy for getting rid of insomnia: Lay down in bed and refuse to fall asleep. It seems that even with insomnia, reverse psychology affects our minds.

Reverse psychology, according to Dr. Karan Raj, a TikTok celebrity, is the strategy that enabled him to conquer sleeplessness at the beginning of his medical career.

You are all aware of this situation. You are fatigued yet unable to sleep as you lie in bed in the hot, sticky weather. Insomnia affects over 95% of people at some point in their life, and 15% of people have a chronic condition that has a significant negative impact on their daily lives and health.

Sometimes we experiment with different techniques to get to sleep quickly, like taking slow, deep breaths or relaxing each muscle one at a time, but most of the time we just accept the fact that we’ll be up late.

Raj claims he had sleeplessness until he tried his method, which doesn’t involve any practice or effort.

He explained, “When I started working as a doctor, I struggled with insomnia. There’s one thing I thought wouldn’t work but it did,” in a video posted on his very popular TikTok channel with nearly 5 million followers.

“Basically, you say to yourself ‘I’m not going to sleep’ and you stay awake,” he added.

According to him, “You don’t read a book, play with your phone or watch TV, anything.

“You just lie in bed with your eyes open. You force yourself to stay awake, tell yourself ‘Don’t go to sleep, don’t go to sleep.’ In many cases, you’ll feel tired and fall asleep. It works for me.”

“By the way, this is called ‘paradoxical intent’,” he wrote in the comments.

“If I tell you not to think about a polar bear … guess what you’ll think of first? Works the same way!”

His strategy is to train oneself to doze off “unintentionally,” or as someone put it in the comments:  “This is reverse psychology.”

When he was asked, “When did he manage to overcome his insomnia?”

He said, “When I stopped watching TV until late at night.”
