Climate change provokes suicide – says new study

According to a survey conducted by the American Psychiatric Association, the majority of US adults are concerned about the impact of the climate disaster on their mental health.

According to researchers from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom, rising global humidity causes a rise in the frequency of suicides.

The word published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Nature makes this claim.

Women and young people struggled the most during periods of excessive humidity, as their bodies are unable to regulate their temperature.

“When it comes to mental health, there are quite a few connections. Anxiety arises, it becomes difficult to fall asleep, it becomes unbearable. Sleep deprivation is another huge problem. It is difficult to sleep when it is hot. And even more difficult when it is humid,” the researchers note.

From 1979 to 2016, scientists researched the climate of 60 countries in depth. It was discovered that over 700,000 suicides occur each year around the world.

“The deterioration in the mental health of people around the world has previously been associated with cyclones, forest fires, floods and other consequences of climate change,” the scientists concluded.
