Coronavirus reduces intelligence even more than stroke – scientists

The infection affects the areas of the human brain that are responsible for cognitive abilities. They do not recover even after recovery.

The researchers claim that people who have suffered from coronavirus disease have cognitive deficits. Moreover, this consequence of the infection does not go away even after complete recovery.

The results of the work of British and American scientists are published in The Lancet.

Scientists analyzed the data of over 81,000 people with and without coronavirus disease who took the Great British Intelligence Test.

It turned out that the study showed a significant decrease in intelligence after suffering from COVID. Those patients who had had a severe form of infection and were connected to a ventilator began to suffer the most cognitive deficits.

Scientists argue that the level of intelligence, that is, the cognitive abilities of the brain, do not recover even a year after recovery due to the fact that the coronavirus negatively affects human abilities. The virus infects areas of the brain that are responsible for abstract thinking and logic.
