The United States Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to use hand sanitizers manufactured in Mexico by Harmonic Nature S de RL de MI.
These products are labelled as containing ethanol or isopropyl alcohol but contain 1-propanol, which is not approved for use in hand sanitizer sold in the United States and is toxic and potentially fatal if swallowed.

The most vulnerable are small children who inadvertently consume these products, as well as adolescents and adults who use these products as an alcohol substitute.
Consuming 1-propanol can result in fatal central nervous system depression.
Confusion, decreased consciousness, and slowed pulse and breathing are all possible symptoms of 1-propanol exposure. Individuals experiencing these symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
When exposed to 1-propanol, the skin and eyes may become irritated, and allergic skin reactions may occur in some cases.
The FDA advised consumers who own these products to stop using them and dispose of them in a hazardous waste container.
Avoid flushing or pouring these products down the drain, the agency advised.
