Expert Reveals Scientifically-proven Supplement That Battles Aging, Dementia And Heart Disease

To live a longer life, several lifestyle habits are commonly considered important. These include a nutritious diet, regular exercise, avoiding smoking and reducing alcohol consumption. Additionally, taking a supplement with multiple health benefits can also be beneficial.

Edward van Harmelen, founder of the Youth and Earth supplement company, claims that spermidine supplements can slow down aging and offer protection against dementia and heart disease.

According to van Harmelen, spermidine is a naturally occurring polyamine found in food sources like aged cheese, soy, mushrooms, whole wheat, and buckwheat.

Studies on the effects of Spermidine have revealed that it may activate autophagy, which may halt the aging process and lower the risk of age-related disorders.

“However, as we age,” according to the expert, “our spermidine levels and autophagy rate decline – leaving cells more exposed to damage.

“Calorie-restricted diets and fasting can enhance autophagy. Thus, a spermidine supplement can act as a ‘caloric restriction and fasting mimetic’ with overall health-promoting effects.”

Autophagy can help get rid of damaged or abnormal organelles and proteins that can cause neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

“Additionally, autophagy can help to promote the formation of new synapses and stimulate neurogenesis, which can improve cognitive function and protect against age-related cognitive decline.”

This finding was supported by a study published in the Wiener klinische Wochenschrift journal in 2020.

According to the study, oral spermidine consumption was strongly associated with an increase in cognitive function.

“The cohort that received the higher dosage of spermidine (group A) showed an improvement in the groups of participants with mild and moderate dementia.”

Mr. Van Harmelen elaborated, saying, “in cancer, it can inhibit the growth of blood vessels that feed tumours and help cancer cells evade the immune system by removing the ‘waste’ by-products that would otherwise attract immune cells.”

According to the findings of a separate piece of research published in the journal Pharmacological Research in 2020, “based on these observations and the absolute requirement for polyamines in tumour growth, spermidine could be a rational target for chemoprevention and clinical therapeutics of cancers.”

Mr. Van Harmelen said that autophagy in the case of heart disease has been found to help guard against heart damage and facilitate the healing of damaged heart tissue.

Autophagy can get rid of damaged mitochondria, which are the parts of the cell that make energy. This can help reduce inflammation and stop the buildup of harmful substances that can lead to heart disease.

Furthermore, autophagy may aid in the development of new blood vessels, enhancing the flow of blood to the heart and assisting in the repair of injured heart tissue.

A study published in the journal Science found that “increased uptake of spermidine has protective effects against cancer, metabolic disease, heart disease, and neurodegeneration.”

Van Harmelen also noted that research suggests spermidine may have anti-aging benefits for skin and hair.

According to the findings of another study published in the journal Nature, the secretions produced by streptococcus bacteria that are present in the skin’s microbiome may stimulate the synthesis of elastin, collagen, and lipids in older skin cells, hence enhancing the barrier function and structure of the skin.

Foods rich in spermidine include:

  • Wheat
  • Soybeans
  • Aged cheese
  • Shiitake mushrooms
  • Peas
  • Nuts
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Broccoli.

In pill or powder form, it may also be used as a daily supplement.
