The Fruit That Holds The Key To Boosting Brain-calming Hormones and Can Help You Sleep Better – According To Experts

This low-cost snack’s mineral and amino acid composition may help you fall asleep quicker and soothe your mind.

While fruit is normally not recommended for dinner due to its high fructose level, there may be an exception, particularly when it comes to sleep. According to The Sleep Charity, eating this affordable fruit before bedtime might be the secret to a good night’s sleep.

The Sleep Charity has announced its top five recommendations for improved sleep in 2024, with bananas ranking first.

It said that the popular fruit might help you sleep since it contains magnesium and potassium. Both these minerals contribute to muscle relaxation.

However, potassium and magnesium aren’t the only nutrients that a banana may provide. The golden berry also includes tryptophan, an amino acid.

This promotes the release of brain-calming substances. Furthermore, the organization said that fruit promotes the production of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone in your body that plays an important part in how well you sleep.

According to studies published in Antioxidants in Health and Disease, grapes, tart cherries, and strawberries are some of the finest producers of melatonin among fruits.

However, if you don’t want to have fruit for supper, bananas aren’t the only option. To help you sleep, the Sleep Charity also suggests almonds, salmon, whole-grain cereals, and oatcakes with cheese.

It further mentioned that Marmite contains natural elements that may assist in promoting sleep. Whatever you choose, the main thing is that you should keep the meal before bedtime light.

According to the organization, eating a large dinner just before bedtime might cause pain and indigestion. Indeed, spicy food ranks among the least favorable dinner options for a good night’s sleep.

However, high-carbohydrate meals such as pasta and rice might increase acid production and keep you awake for longer. In addition, eating too much chocolate before sleep might result in a caffeine overdose.

“Sleep is hugely important to leading a healthier and happier life,” said Lisa Artis, deputy CEO of the Sleep Charity, to Sky News. “we want everyone to share that sentiment and understand the importance of sleep as part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle.”

“Building a good sleep routine, and sticking to it, will help increase positivity and reduce levels of stress, meaning people can start the New Year feeling refreshed.”
