Vaccinated patients are advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or a feeling of rapid heartbeat, flutter, or pounding.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it has added warnings to supporting documentation for Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna vaccines about possible rare cardiac side effects.

“The FDA is announcing revisions to the patient and provider fact sheets for the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines regarding the suggested increased risks of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart) following vaccination,” it said.

Thus, patients are advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or a feeling of rapid heartbeat, fluttering or pounding of the heart.

The agency specified that about 1,200 cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported in the 300 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines administered in the United States.

Another 300 people under the age of 30 went to hospitals, but almost all were discharged after being examined.

Moderna and Pfizer’s vaccines are two of three approved vaccines in the United States. The other is the American Johnson & Johnson.

It was previously reported that the World Health Organization (WHO) would examine whether there is a relationship between myocarditis cases and coronavirus vaccination with Pfizer / BioNTech.

According to the advisor to the director-general of the entity, Mariangela Simao, the information on these cases comes from the United States and Israel.
