Even if you eat a healthy and balanced diet, there are certain foods that can cause digestive problems, such as bloating, constipation or abdominal heaviness. Find out what they are and if you should limit their consumption.

Dairy

Milk and dairy in general can be difficult for many to digest, as most of us lack the enzyme necessary to digest the natural sugar called lactose.

If you suffer from nausea or bloating, we recommend opting for plant-based milks or yogurts. The latter contains bacteria that feed on sugars and actually do the digestion for us. At the same time, they are just as rich in minerals and calcium.

Orange juice

Despite being a good source of vitamins and nutrients, orange is very acidic, so it can irritate the stomach lining, especially if taken on an empty stomach.

Orange juice is not only capable of causing nausea or heaviness. It can also lead to too rapid and severe emptying of your gallbladder.

Corn

This popular food is almost impossible to digest, especially if you don’t chew it well. Corn is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and dietary fiber, which is why it is considered one of the healthiest cereals.

However, it is difficult for our body to digest its grains, covered in cellulose, since it lacks the enzymes and bacteria necessary to break it down.

If you suffer from digestive problems, it is better to chew the grains well and opt for processed corn, although in this case, it loses part of its nutrients.

Boiled eggs

Many people feel abdominal heaviness after eating a hard-boiled egg, since the yolk — in which most of the fat is concentrated — is coagulated, making it more difficult to digest.

Fortunately, there are lighter and more digestive alternatives, such as soft-boiled, scrambled, and fried eggs. Keep in mind that if you choose to eat it cooked, it is best not to boil it for more than four minutes.

Preserves

Canned fish is not only rich in natural fats. They are also preserved in oil, something that makes digestion even more difficult. Nutrition experts recommend limiting the consumption of canned food.

If you have a delicate stomach, you should not eat them at night either, since they can be even heavier.
