Fatty liver disease, associated with increased amount of fat in the liver, continues to rise and lead to cirrhosis in men and women in the U.S. and around the world.
It means you have excess fat in your liver due to drinking too much alcohol, and if this is not the case you may have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) linked to chronic disease markers, such as type 2 diabetes.
If left untreated, NAFLD can lead to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) – a condition whereby fat in the liver causes inflammation and liver cell damage.

When this happens there are some behavioral changes you or your doctor may notice.
If a person has had liver disease for a while, they may notice a few different and unusual symptoms pertaining to the way the act and feel.
A person may forget things or get easily confused.
Friends or family may even notice your speech has become more slurred.
Liver disease does not only affect behaviour, but other changes could also include feeling more sluggish, an inability to move your hands well anymore or even a change in the smell of your breath.
It may be hard to notice hepatic encephalopathy at first, said WebMD.
It is unclear why some people accumulate fat in the liver while others do not.

Similarly, there is limited understanding of why some fatty livers develop inflammation that progresses to liver damage.
However, NAFLD and NASH are both linked to chronic disease markers.
