Most common symptoms seen in 73% of fully vaccinated patients – COVID study

The US lifted a pandemic travel ban that had been in place for more than a year and a half, providing comfort to the tourism sector as well as families who had been divided by the rules since the crisis began.

Visitors can now fly into the United States with proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, while there are exceptions for children under the age of 18 and passengers from countries where vaccination is limited.

But the COVID war is not over yet. In recent days, the number of cases of the Coronavirus has remained constant, with roughly 70,000 new infections reported everyday. Hospitalizations and mortality have both decreased in recent years.

Alaska and Montana, two hard-hit Western states, are showing signs of recovery. However, infection levels in other states, such as California, Colorado, and New Mexico, continue to rise gradually.

In the double vaccinated population, cases continue to rise slightly, however.

Professor Tim Spector, chief scientist on the ZOE COVID Study app, identified the top coronavirus symptom now seen in the fully vaccinated in his newest video.

According to Prof. Spector, the most common symptom currently seen in fully vaccinated people is a runny nose, with 73 percent of those who test positive for symptomatic Covid expressing this symptom.

Sneezing, sore throat, and a persistent cough are also common symptoms.

Commenting on the general decline of cases, prof Spector said: “It’s great that we’re finally seeing cases start to come down, and hopefully we’re over the last great peak of COVID in 2021.

“This is driven in large part by declining cases in children who have been on half term holidays and by high rates of previous infection, but we’re hopeful that the trend will continue.

“It’s still worrying that cases in the older, more vulnerable age group are increasing, but as the booster programme continues to roll out we’re likely to see this come down as well.

“As the temperatures drop and winter comes we’re still seeing far too much COVID in the community leading to high Long COVID and hospitalisation rates compared to other countries in Western Europe. With high rates of other viral respiratory illnesses too (although no flu yet), there is no room for complacency.”

“While restrictions, masks and vaccine uptake in children are factors, it’s clear that there’s no single solution to bringing rates down permanently. We’ve seen that a combination of population safety precautions and vaccines works best, and so the third booster vaccine, coupled with mask wearing and distancing in high risk areas, is our way out.”
