Taking The Pill Can Reduce Risk of Acne in Teens – Says Study

Even though up to 80% of us will face the living nightmare that is acne at some time in our lives, scientists still do not fully comprehend what causes the illness and, more crucially, how to treat it.

However, a new study may have figured out why some people’s skin bacteria triggers inflammation while others don’t – and how to treat it.

Parents who are having trouble persuading their teens to follow a healthy diet can now point to scientific evidence that eating fatty fish can help prevent acne.

Salmon, mackerel, and other foods strong in omega-3 fatty acids, such as chickpeas and lentils, are thought to help maintain a clear complexion.

Dermatologists discovered the association after studying the diets of 100 acne-prone adults aged 12 and up, as well as their levels of specific nutritional markers. They discovered that 94 patients had omega-3 fatty acid levels that were below the required ranges.

Fatty acids, which can be taken as capsules, have anti-inflammatory characteristics, according to the German scientists at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.

Dr. Anne Gürtler, the lead author, described them as “most promising.”

“This exciting research,” said Professor Asli Bilgic of Akdeniz University in Turkey, can help us “get one step closer to providing effective treatments for the millions of people who face embarrassment and stigma from this skin condition.”
