Teeth cleaning: When to brush your teeth before or after food – dentist explains

Published on

A dentist has explained that cleaning your teeth immediately after eating can lead to enamel destruction. Therefore, the right thing to do is to wait a while after meals to brush them.

“It’s an age-old debate, but my professional advice is that it doesn’t actually matter whether you brush before or after eating – it’s the amount of time you wait between the activities,” says British specialist Richard Marques.

“The precious enamel that coats the teeth is temporarily weakened after eating due to the acids present in food, so by brushing right after you eat, you risk damaging it.

British specialist Richard Marques suggested that the time between eating and teeth cleaning is important. You have to wait a while before or after eating to brush your teeth if you want to have a healthy smile.

You should wait 30 minutes after eating or 10 minutes before eating before brushing your teeth to allow the active ingredients in toothpaste to do their job of protecting your teeth and hardening your enamel, according to the specialist.

Further, Dr Richard Marque recommends porridge with honey instead of sugar, wholemeal toast, avocado on toast, eggs and salmon, or even a full English breakfast.

The dentist advised avoiding sugary cereals, fruit juices, cheese and milk during breakfast.
