Avocados are good for your heart, lower your cholesterol, help you lose weight, and even sharpen your brain. All of these significant health benefits have been scientifically established in research undertaken over time, demonstrating the importance of this green giant.

Supports the digestive system

Avocados have been discovered to improve the health of the digestive tract and stomach, according to researchers. Including avocados in one meal a day results in a considerable increase in gut flora diversity, which aids in the correct and healthy functioning of the digestive system. The study looked at 163 overweight or obese people between the ages of 25 and 45. The researchers prepared a meal for each participant and replaced one of their daily meals with it. The experimental group was given an avocado-based dinner, while the control group was given the same menu but without the avocado.

The findings demonstrated that, despite the fact that avocado is a high-fat meal and that the experimental group ingested more calories per day than the control group, they also burnt more fat. Participants who ate avocados acquired less fat in their digestion than those who ate other foods because they burned fat at a faster pace. Avocados also include a lot of dietary fiber and monounsaturated fat, both of which contribute to heart health, and consuming avocados helps individuals to build a more diversified intestinal bacterial population, which speeds up the process of breaking down dietary fiber, according to the researchers.

Lowers cholesterol

Following that, participants were placed into three groups, each of which was given a different menu for five weeks: a low-fat diet, a moderate-fat diet, and a moderate-fat diet plus one avocado per day.

The avocado diet group had fewer oxidized LDL particles in their blood, as well as more lutein, which may be the substance that shields LDL from oxidation, according to the researchers.

The items supplied to the control group had similar calories to avocados, but they lack lutein and unsaturated fat, both of which are found in avocados.

Researchers discovered 25 percent higher lutein in the eyes of participants in the experimental group who ate avocados every day. In cognitive tests that examined memory, processing speed, and concentration levels, those participants outperformed the control group members.

Helps to treat leukemia, too

Canadian researchers have discovered an avocado component that may one day result in improved leukemia treatment. The drug they developed particularly targets and kills a specific enzyme that appears to play a key role in cancer cell proliferation.
