The six best ways to get rid of hangover symptoms quickly

A hangover is a set of unpleasant symptoms that we experience after drinking a lot of alcohol.

The risk of hangover increases during the Christmas and New Year festivities, so an expert offered some tips for alleviating discomfort.

Dehydration is the main cause of a hangover, along with vitamin depletion and excessive introduction of toxins into the body, says hydration expert Nick Hird.

The ‘Popular’ hangover remedies are often just a myth, but there are things you can do to avoid and relieve your symptoms the next day.

‘No’ to sodas

One of these things is not trying to replace water with fizzy drinks or soda.

“Soft drinks actually increase the rate at which your body absorbs alcohol, so it will make your hangover worse,” he told the Express.

Recharges the balance of lost electrolytes

Electrolytes are key to hydration, Hird insists. Replenish your body with the minerals you need to retain fluids and expel toxins. “They are one of the most effective hangover remedies, especially when combined with plenty of water.”

Forget about coffee

A cup of coffee may seem like a good stimulant, but Hird warns that it is not. “Caffeine dehydrates you even more, which makes your hangover even worse.”

Take a good nap

Sleep is one of the best hangover remedies, but when you drink a lot, alcohol interrupts sleep and doesn’t let the body recover.

“Try scheduling a nap for the next day, or if you don’t have time, make sure you get some sleep early so your body can recover,” the expert said.

Do exercises

Obviously it’s not about going to the gym and starting to lift weights. But a jog and even a walk with fresh air will make you release endorphins and feel better.

It will help reduce inflammation and calm the digestive system.

The expert adds that the only method to avoid a 100% hangover is not to drink alcohol. But knowing full well that this formula will not work for everyone, he offered some advice on how to do it wisely.

First of all, you must remember that drinking alcohol on an empty stomach is the worst idea. Make sure you eat a good lunch before you go out. In addition, alcohol is a diuretic, that is, it makes you want to go to the bathroom and the body loses a lot of fluid. It’s best to accompany each drink with a glass of water, says Hird.

But you should not drink a lot of water before going to bed either: you will need a good recovery and it is better not to interrupt your sleep to go to the bathroom.
