While the ideal way to brew coffee for weight reduction (the answer: as little sugar as possible) has been hotly argued, it hasn’t been as much debated what the optimal time is to consume coffee for health benefits.

Nutritionist Christina Taul advises to drink a glass of water with lemon juice on an empty stomach after waking up, and after half an hour – a cup of coffee with breakfast.
According to her, water with lemon will create the correct alkaline environment in the stomach, and coffee within 30 minutes after waking up will reduce appetite, which will allow you to eat your first meal without feeling too hungry.
“I recommend coffee on an empty stomach 30 mins after a glass of lemon water for weight loss,” says Certified Clinical Nutritionist and Founder of Hudson Valley Nutrition, Christina Towle.
“The lemon water hydrates and provides an alkaline environment for future consumption.”
“Drinking your coffee on an empty stomach or along with the first meal of the day can prevent overeating and ultimately weight loss,” says nutritionist Lisa Richards.
“Morning coffee can also help to burn more calories from your breakfast by increasing the thermogenic effect of food (TEF), which is the amount of calories the body burns after eating or drinking,” says registered dietitian Trista Best.
Although it’s not an excuse, drinking coffee 30 minutes after waking up can help your body go into overdrive, burning through your breakfast quickly. This is especially true if your meal also offers you energy, as this can assist kickstart your metabolism.
Coffee, especially black coffee, can assist support your digestion, and having a cup in the first 30 minutes of your day can help you lose weight when combined with a healthy diet and regular physical activity, according to experts.
