Apigenin is one of the main flavonoids in celery, which has a high medicinal value. It has important physiological functions due to its properties as an anticancer, neuroprotective and regulator of blood lipids.

Additionally, apigenin has been shown to improve the stress resistance of plants. Therefore, apigenin is closely associated with the stress resistance and healthy qualities of celery, indicates a study published in The Nature.

Also, the natural product found in celery has been identified as an effective component to reduce inflammation, which is one of the main causes of chronic type 2 diabetes. Celery has an antibacterial effect, which reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Celery, known for its property to increase diuresis, is a low-calorie vegetable with a high water content that contains a considerable dose of fiber, along with some vitamins and minerals.

It is a good source of vitamin K, with one cup containing about 30% of the recommended daily intake, according to the University of Michigan

Celery can also help you get enough folate, potassium, fiber, and the micronutrient molybdenum. It contains small amounts of vitamin C, vitamin A, and some B vitamins.

Here are the nutritional facts for celery, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA):
