Avocado is not only delicious, but it is also rich in vitamins, minerals, and ‘good’ fats, something that makes it a key element for a balanced and healthy diet.

However, once cut, it rusts almost immediately. We tell you how you can extend the life of this superfood.

One of the simplest and at the same time effective methods is to place chopped onion in an airtight container, next to the fruit. The vapors emitted by the onion make it possible to slow down the oxidation process. At the same time, the fruit will not be altered by the spicy flavor of the vegetable.

We recommend opting for red or purple onion, as it contains more antioxidants. This trick will help you keep your avocado for several days without turning brown.

Another option is to sprinkle the fruit with lemon juice. This citrus fruit is also rich in antioxidants, which considerably reduces oxidation.

You can both rub the juice on the part of the fruit exposed to the air, as well as place a lemon wedge on the pulp, although it is necessary to remove the hard first. In any case, we recommend storing the avocado in an airtight container.

You can also smear the surface of the avocado that you want to keep with olive oil. The oil is not only an antioxidant, but it also helps prevent the fruit from coming into contact with the air thanks to an oily film it forms.

It should be remembered that olive oil is the only substance that does not generate free radicals at high temperatures. In this way, it is less harmful to health than butter when frying.

By the way, here we explain how you should boil eggs, and how drinking black or green tea affects Blood Pressure.
