A team of scientists has discovered that Omega 3 supplements can increase the risk of a specific heart rhythm disorder, exposing the body to other serious diseases.

Omega 3 fatty acids are acquired through foods such as fish, seeds and nuts, but as with all nutrients, it is not recommended to exceed their consumption.

This has been shown by a study by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) where it is explained that excessive consumption of this supplement can cause atrial fibrillation, causing the heart to beat irregularly and leaving high chances of the body suffering a stroke.

According to the study, atrial fibrillation may also increase the risk of blood clots, heart failure, and other heart-related problems.

Consuming Omega 3 is necessary for all organisms, but it is advisable to go to a nutritionist to consume it in the necessary amounts that the body requires.

In another study, just opposite to the above, says that Higher Omega 3 levels can lower the risk of premature death and the omega-3s found in fish and shellfish can have beneficial effects on general health and consequently can slow the aging process.

“Since all of these analyses were statistically adjusted for multiple personal and medical factors (i.e., age, sex, weight, smoking, diabetes, blood pressure, etc., plus blood omega-6 fatty acid levels), we believe that these are the strongest data published to date supporting the view that over the long-term, having higher blood omega-3 levels can help maintain better overall health,” said Dr Bill Harris, Founder of the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI), and lead author on this research.
