Why is it dangerous to drink beer in hot weather?

To face the summer heat, specialists recommend drinking more fluids. However, beer can be unhealthy. A doctor of medical sciences and endocrinologist explained to Revyuh why it can be dangerous to quench your thirst with a beer.

In theory, beer is a cold drink that is very pleasant in hot weather. But it has a hidden danger.

The problem is that it is a concentrated drink that removes fluid from the cells and increases its amount in the intracellular space, thus causing a particular type of dehydration, explains the expert consulted by the Revyuh team.

It distributes water in different sectors, which causes an alteration and worsening of metabolic processes and has negative effects on human health.

In addition, beer is a drink that contains many calories, the specialist recalled. And if you drink a lot of beer in hot weather to quench your thirst, you can gain weight, even excess.

With beer, you can quench not only thirst but also hunger. But it disappears quickly from the stomach, therefore the feeling of satiety does not last long, and then it will be necessary to eat something else and many calories will accumulate.

It means beer threatens to be overweight, concluded the expert.

But there are other side Effects as well.

According to nutritionist and celebrity chef Serena Poon, CN, CHC, CHN, beer is made from cereal grains that contain polyphenols that can support health. And, brewing grains like barley malt and hops contain quercetin, epicatechin, and gallic acid.

“These compounds have antioxidant properties which help protect your cells from damaging free radicals. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress, which leads to aging and disease,” she says.

“Beer can actually help keep your body healthy if consumed in moderation.”

According to weight loss coach Stephanie Mansour, if you are drinking three or more beers per day, it “can lead to an increased risk for heart disease or stroke”.

“Excessive alcohol consumption, including that of beer, could lead to serious issues such as heart conditions, deteriorating brain health, liver disease, and certain types of cancer,” says Poon.
