Prominent British scientist and presenter Sir David Attenborough, one of the pioneers in nature documentaries, managed to gain his first million followers in just four hours and 44 minutes.
The 94-year-old naturalist claimed that he registered on Instagram to alert humanity that “the world is in danger.” It was Attenborough’s colleagues from A Life On Our Planet, Jonnie and Colin, who were responsible for keeping the account.
“The continents are on fire, the glaciers are melting, coral reefs are dying, fish are disappearing from our oceans. The list goes on. But we know what to do about it and this is why I am addressing this new form of communication,” he said in his first entry. The video has already received nearly 16 million views.
In this way, Attenborough broke the record set by Friends star Jennifer Aniston, who signed up for the social network in October 2019 and amassed more than a million followers in five hours and 16 minutes. The platform even registered technical problems due to the high interest in following the account of the famous actress’ account.
