Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, posted a series of tweets about the platform’s last few weeks.
The previous executive discussed the issues that had arisen over the years and accepted responsibility for the measures done.
“I have tried taking a break from Twitter recently, but I must say,” Dorsey said in the first of five tweets, “the company has always tried to do its best given the information it had. Every decision we made was ultimately my responsibility*. In the cases we were wrong or went too far, we admitted it and worked to correct.”
He stated that some things can be “fixed immediately. “It is important to me that we get critical feedback in all of its forms, but also important that we get the space and time to address it. All of that should be done publicly,” he said.
To achieve user trust, Dorsey stressed the significance of providing more transparency to Birdie’s social network, both in terms of policy and operations.
“Whether it’s owned by a company or an open protocol doesn’t matter _as much as_ deliberately deciding to be open about every decision and why it was made. It’s not easy to do, but it must happen,” he pointed out.
Regret and guilt
Jack Dorsey, who has been off Twitter since last year, recently stated that nothing said now counts because you must focus to the future.
“What matters is how the service works and acts, and how quickly it learns and improves. My biggest failing was that quickness part. I’m confident that part at least is being addressed, and will be fixed,” he said.
Imposing lifetime ban on Individuals like former US president Donald Trump or corporations being, according to Dorsey, is “crazy” and “wrong.”
“As I’ve said before, I don’t believe any permanent ban (with the exception of illegal activity) is right, or should be possible. This is why we need a protocol that’s resilient to the layers above,” concluded the former CEO.
This policy could be one of the first steps made by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. There is fear, though, that users known for disseminating disinformation about vaccines, fabricating political news, or spewing hate speech could reappear on the network and become even more powerful.
Musk’s criticism
Dorsey’s remark follows criticism of Twitter’s content moderation team from billionaire Elon Musk, the company’s new owner. The Tesla CEO stated that he intends to dramatically reduce the post-suppression policy, implying a shift in content rules and staff reductions.
The disagreement grew to the point where Musk publicly chastised a Twitter official, which was prohibited by the agreed deal and placed the platform’s purchase on hold. He allegedly stabbed Vijaya Gadde, the platform’s top policy executive, twice, after she cried during a meeting with staff about the purchase.
Although he may not agree with Musk completely, Dorsey appears to be on board with the new owner of Twitter’s ideas. Without the current board of directors, the network would be more vulnerable to the billionaire’s views, which might have great or negative consequences depending on how people react.
