Japanese male politicians get pregnant

Men from Japan’s ruling party in their thirties stayed in “pregnancy” jackets for 24 hours and carried out their day-to-day work.

Male members of Japan’s ruling party decided to take part in the experiment and wore ‘pregnancy vests’ to simulate the physical burden of pregnancy.

This was reported by The Mainichi.

Representatives of the Democratic Party donned seven-kilogram vests with artificial bellies, like those of pregnant women.

By feeling the weight a pregnant woman carries in the seventh month of pregnancy, the junior lawmakers hope to learn about the physical burden and inconvenience experienced by expectant mothers, and use their own experiences as reference material for formulating policy measures concerning delivery and child-rearing.

The experience of pregnant officials would help officials in laying out policy measures.

“I was able to realize that mundane movements such as sitting and standing are this hard,” said 39-year-old Masanobu Ogura after donning the jacket. “This weight I feel on my belly is the weight of a new life,” he said.

The 30-year-old men spent one day in “pregnancy jackets”. They continued their daily work responsibilities.
