One of the dogs of the 46th U.S. President-elect Joe Biden became part of the politician’s family in 2018. The dog will be the first pet adopted from a shelter to live in the White House.

Biden and his wife, Jill, will take two German Shepherds with them when they move into the presidential residence in January 2021. Champ has been acquired from a breeder in 2008. Major was adopted by the pair from the Delaware Animal Protective Association in 2018.

Major came to the organization with his five little brothers, when he was still a puppy. The puppies surrendered to the shelter after they were exposed to toxins. After receiving emergency veterinary care, all the dogs were saved.

Ashley Biden, daughter of Joe Biden, was the one who sent her father a Facebook post looking for homes for German Shepherds. The Democratic politician called the shelter and ended up adopting Major.

The arrival of Champ and Major resumes a long tradition of the presence of dogs in the White House. Before Donald Trump, every representative in the American country since 1901 has had one or more dogs.
