The shocking testimony of a covid-19 survivor

“This is not a flu where you can relax with your netflix and tea for a few weeks. It is an active, debilitating disease with neurological consequences for most ” Hannah Davis dispels the myths about Covid19

In a series of posts on Twitter, Hannah Davis, a young and healthy woman who caught the virus by going to the grocery store, as she says, describes her Odyssey for four months, sending a strong message against complacency.

Specifically she writes:

I have just completed 4 months since I became ill with Covid19. I am young and I was healthy. Death is not my only concern. I still have fever almost every day, cognitive impairment, tremors, severe headaches, heart rate exceeding 150, joint pains, palpitations, muscle aches and a feeling that my body has forgotten to breathe.

During the last 124 days I have no sensation in my arms and hands, I have severe back and kidney pains, I smell things that do not exist, I have tinnitus, I find it difficult to read and understand a text, I find it difficult to participate in a discussion, I have a sensitivity to smell and light and I get bruises in the slightest. Just thinking can cause me a headache. I am not the only one who shows a reduction in cognitive functions. This is now as common a symptom as a cough.

No one knows when COVID patients will stop being contagious. Many are left alone for months.

Many people took too long to get tested. There are people on the same schedule as me who are now learning that they have had a stroke, encephalitis and heart attack. MRI and CT scans were performed only in the intensive care unit. Doctors for a long time only looked at the lungs.

The symptoms are strange. There are people who have allergies to the degree of rash. In others the allergies they had disappeared. Menopausal women have a period again. The medication that some people were taking no longer works and needs to be adjusted to a higher or lower dose.

It causes the activation of other viruses and effects from past conditions. Old injuries come to life again. I feel my left foot, injured in a moped accident in 2017 as if it was injured yesterday.

Weakness in exercise, intolerance to alcohol and caffeine as well as increased stress are also common.

Insomnia is also common. Sometimes the symptoms go away and while you think they are getting better they come back while new symptoms are constantly appearing.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is beginning to identify us as long-term patients and the numbers are high: 35% of people do not return to normal after the proposed “treatment” period.

Given the current cases of 4.2 million in the US, this figure is 1,470,000 people who are long-term ill in the US alone.

In patients aged 18-34 years without pre-existing conditions, this number is 20%. I was on this unlucky team and so could you. It is a strange experience where almost everything in your old world is foreign and unreal. I do not want it to happen to another human being.

I had been isolated for 11 days from the day I showed the first symptoms and probably caught the virus going to the grocery store. There is almost nothing worth losing 4 or more months of your life this way. No barbecue, no events, no hair salon.

This is not a flu where you can relax with your netflix and tea for a few weeks. It is an active, debilitating disease with neurological effects for most.
