In Los Angeles, a donated heart survives a plane crash and an unfortunate fall

Published on

A helicopter with a donated heart on board crashed right on the roof of the hospital. The heart was recovered, but it was not the only adversity it had to go through that day.

The Agusta A109S Grand ambulance helicopter crashed on the roof of Kek Hospital in Los Angeles on November 6. That’s where it had to carry a significant burden: a donated heart that was to be transplanted into a patient at the same medical facility.

A witness recorded how the pilot could not control the device and fell right on the hospital helipad on one side. According to reports, three people were on board at the time of the accident and none of them received seriously injuries.

Firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident who managed to recover the heart from the overturned helicopter and handed it over to one of the doctors. In the video you can see how the one with the organ leaves the scene, suddenly stumbles and drops the heart.

Luckily, the heart ended up arriving safely and two hours after the accident, it was being transplanted to the patient for whom it was intended, Keck Hospital reported, cited by Fox5.
