In New York State, you will need to wear a mask in public places as long as you cannot keep two meters away. This was stated this afternoon at a press conference by Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has stated that this order will take effect from Saturday. Cuomo has also warned that whoever violates it could be fined with civil penalties (although this possibility is still being considered).

In practical terms, this means New Yorkers will have to wear the mask in almost every location, public transportation, shopping, and even a busier street. It can only be removed in isolated areas.

The mayor, Bill de Blasio, had already pointed out that all those who entered the food stores should wear a mask, however, this regulation now goes further.

Yesterday, 752 people died and it is more than nine days in a row with more than 700 dead. In total, more than 11,000 people have already died

These are measures that are taken, according to Cuomo, because the expansion of the virus persists. Yesterday, 752 people died and it is more than nine days in a row with more than 700 dead. In total, more than 11,000 people have died across the state. The good news is that hospital admissions are beginning to relax and yesterday fell by 0.7%. In total, more than 200,000 cases of infection have already been reported in New York.

The Governor stated, however, that a “gradual reopening” is already being considered, and that it seeks to relax social distancing. But the governor emphasized that the priority would be public health even if steps are taken to start reopening the economy. He also concluded that there may be a spike in infections.
