The United Kingdom has registered an increase of 938 deaths from COVID-19 in hospitals on Wednesday, to a total of 7,097 deaths, which marks a new daily record of deaths for the second consecutive day.

According to data released today by the Ministry of Health, the number of confirmed cases of the disease advanced by 5,492, to 60,733, after having subjected 232,708 people to diagnostic tests since the pandemic began to spread. The daily increase in fatalities has accelerated in the past two days. After communicating 439 deaths on Monday, the figure rose Tuesday to 786.

Those responsible for the health system have warned that the figures may not provide a real-time picture of the progression of the disease, given that some deaths take several days to report and be added to the official record.

The scientific adviser to the British Defense Ministry, Angela McLean, assured in a press conference that, despite the increase in deaths and infections, there are factors that suggest that “the spread of the virus is not accelerating.”

The expert assured that the hospital admission curve for Covid-19 has begun to flatten, which increases optimism about a possible slowdown in infections.
