Tourists passing through the area were able to witness the terrible scene from inside the bus

The Shanghai Wildlife Park, Shanghai’s most important zoo, mourned the death of an employee this weekend. The events took place this Saturday in the wild beast area of the zoo when the worker was attacked by wild bears while several groups of tourists were inside a bus a few meters away.

In a statement collected by the BBC, those responsible for the park acknowledge that they are “extremely distressed by the tragedy“, at the same time they assure that they “apologized to tourists for any inconvenience caused.” For now, an investigation has been opened to determine what happened.

The park has temporarily closed the area in which the wild animals live, while “strengthened its safety operations.” In addition, they have returned the money for the tickets to the visitors and has promised “to do everything possible to handle the aftermath of the incident”, emphasizing improving the safety of the zoo.

The video circulates on the networks

In the video, which we at Revyuh have decided not to offer, you can see a group of tourists travelling inside a bus while outside they could see bears huddled together. It is a restricted area and visitors can only access by bus, although zoo operators move freely inside.

The zoo has launched an investigation to determine what happened, while temporarily closed the wild animal area

One of the passengers on the bus noticed that there is someone on the ground, although in the footage they cannot be seen clearly. The video has gone viral on Weibo, China’s most important social network, and has led to a controversy about the existence of zoos in the XXI century.

Although it is not usual, it is not the first time that a wild animal kills one of its keepers. In 2018, a white tiger killed its keeper at the zoo in the Japanese city of Kagoshima, while in 2016 another tiger killed a keeper at the Terra Mítica park, in Benidorm, the door of the feline area was left open.
