Shooting on Friday afternoon at the Aventura Mall in South Florida left at least two people injured. The incident occurred just a week after the shopping malls in Miami reopened, affected by restrictions to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Officers immediately went to the shopping centre located on Biscayne Boulevard after the incident was reported. The wounded were immediately transferred to a hospital in the area.
According to statements by employees of the shopping centre, the conflict would have started on the first floor of the Nordstrom department store. The first testimonies indicate that two clients would have started to argue and one of them would have taken out a gun.
The Nordstrom store was evacuated immediately, and intense police activity is currently underway in the popular North Miami-Dade shopping centre.
According to known to this incident, around 12:15 local the situation was under control. The reason for the attack and whether the attacker was detained or on the run is still unknown. The status of the two injured people was also not yet reported.
Through their Twitter account, the Aventura police reported that the officers “are working on the scene.” In addition, they reported that the area was secured and that there are no other threats at the moment. “This is active research. Avoid the area until further notice,” they added.
