The White House spokeswoman has asserted that Washington will not “give up so easily” on its request for an investigation into the origin of the new coronavirus.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki stressed this Monday that the United States will continue to “pressure” China to be “transparent” about the origin of the covid-19.

In a press conference, Psaki has asserted that Washington will not “give up so easily” in its request for an investigation into the origin of the new coronavirus and has stressed that, “in coordination with the international community“, it will act so that the Asian country “share data and information.”

In this regard, she has indicated that the United States will continue with its “commitment” at “the highest levels” for an investigation, “through diplomatic talks and national security,” as well as working with the World Health Organization (WHO) and international partners to exert such “pressure” and thus ensure that Beijing publishes “the underlying data and participates in the second stage of the investigation.”

“We are not going to sit idly by and accept that they have said they are not going to participate,” the spokeswoman added, to highlight that the United States is initiating its “own” review and process on the issue.

In this sense, she has indicated that she is “sure” that the origin of the covid-19 will be one of the “topics of discussion” for US President Joe Biden on the trip that begins this week and that will take him to the United Kingdom at the NATO summit in Brussels or at his long-awaited meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A joint study by the WHO and China concluded in March that the coronavirus was highly unlikely to emerge from a laboratory and stipulated that it would most likely jump from bats to humans in ways “to be determined”.

For its part, the United States this week has expressed its desire to deepen the origin of the coronavirus and has criticized Beijing’s lack of “transparency” in this regard.
