Rapper DaBaby’s gunman says “I shot him” for “trespassing”

A person was shot for trespassing, according to 911 calls released from shooting at North Carolina rapper DaBaby’s home outside Charlotte on Wednesday night.

DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, has not been charged with the incident. Kirk was at home at the time of the incident, according to authorities.

On Wednesday night, the gunman contacted 911 to report that he had shot an intruder.

“I shot him in his leg,” the 911 caller said. “He was trespassing on my property.”

Officers discovered the victim at Kirk’s residence and sent him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to police, the person who was shot is not from the region and was not a guest at the property.

“Just like any other property owner, they’re entitled to their right to secure their property and make sure nobody comes in,” according to Troutman Police Chief Josh Watson.

911 calls were redacted and the caller’s voice was changed before being published to WCNC.

The house is enclosed by a large concrete wall and security gate in the little town of Troutman, just north of Charlotte. Around the property are signs that read “No Trespassing” and “We have guns and shovels.”
