Scientists have recorded a supernova explosion in the galaxy, which could be seen from the ground even with a small telescope.
The Hubble Space Telescope has captured an unusual galaxy named NGC 2442 called the Meathook galaxy. The photo appeared on the official website of the observatory.
Galaxy NGC 2442, or Meathook Galaxy, gets its name from its asymmetric curved shape.
Scientists have recorded a supernova SN2015F explosion in the galaxy. It was created by a white dwarf that was part of a binary star system. The star absorbed the mass of its companion until it captured too much matter. This threw the star off balance and led to a supernova explosion.
It is noted that the SN2015F explosion was quite strong and was visible from Earth even with a small telescope.
